New Q & A with Lisa

Many of you will remember how much fun we used to have asking Lisa questions on her old forum. Thanks to our great friend Ryan, those sessions were captured for posterity and posted on our Fan Site. Recently, we asked Lisa if she would answer some new questions for our fan club members, and she happily agreed. Here are the questions we submitted, and her replies. Thank you to all who participated, and to Lisa for being such a good sport.
    Lisa's Q&A
  • From Kaylee: When you were in Riverdance how many songs did you sing exactly?
  • Lisa: Hi Kaylee. I sang Heart's Cry, Sibhna, Cloudsong, Lift The Wings, Home & the Heartland. Two of them are featured on my CD.
  • From Kjersten: What is your favorite American fast food restaurant?
  • Lisa: HMMMMMMM Not mad about the fast food restaurants. I'd definitely go to Starbucks quicker than McDonalds!
  • From Kjersten: What is your absolute FAVORITE thing about touring in America or Europe or both?
  • Lisa: Well America and Europe are very different. My favourite thing about touring Europe is that it's all very familiar and most of the countries trade in Euro which makes it quite easy and of course it's much closer to home. As for America, HBO, shopping malls, big cars, great food, great people - the list is endless and you never really have to work hard to convince your family to come visit!
  • From Kjersten: What is your absolute LEAST FAVORITE thing about touring America or Europe or both?
  • Lisa: My least favourite thing about touring America and Europe is being away from my family.
  • From Dennis: What are your plans for after Celtic Woman?
  • Lisa: I have no plans for after Celtic Woman. I think my 3 children will keep me busy enough!. I'm just enjoying each day as it comes.
  • From Jackie and Bill: As a soloist, your physical movements and expressions portray a charming personality (and surely why many thousands of us fans adore you). Do you originate them yourself?
  • Lisa: I just perform as I feel. I'm very emotionally connected to each song that I sing in the show so that makes it easy and to be honest I love what I do and that definitely helps portray that image.
  • From Jackie and Bill: With so many shows and much travel, when do you have time to be with your family?
  • Lisa: My children are usually on tour with me so the only time I am away from them is a few hours in the evening during the show.
  • From Don: What are your short and long term plans for your future? I hope you will continue to doing what you do now and working with the girls. It is all so perfect.
  • Lisa: We all just take each tour as it comes. I've no plans to leave the group. I love what i do. However, with 3 small children i can barely plan next week let alone the next 5 years. Touring and performing is hard though and I honestly believe that you should only do it until you have to fake a smile. When that day comes it's time to move on. It's like any job. When you feel you can't give 100%, you've got to stop.
  • From Carolyn: What's the possibility that there will be at least 1 Lisa-Chloe duet in the new CW that will be filmed in July?
  • Lisa: I honestly have no idea what is planned for the new special. There will obviously be new songs, costumes and set but I'm not going to ruin the surprise and tell you!!!!
  • From Carolyn: Can we expect a DVD from Lisa? Soon?
  • Lisa: No, I've no plans to film a DVD. No time to be honest. There was one that I did but it never got to the final stages. Sorry!
  • From Sarah: What do you like most about coming to the US?
  • Lisa: Ah, I feel really at home in the US. I've spent so much time there over the last 9 years. I'd find it really hard to say what my favourite part is though!!!!
  • From Sarah: What are the best places, in your opinion, are a "must see" in Ireland - Places, sights, etc.?
  • Lisa: Well being a Dublin lass, I'm gonna say Dublin. I love Dublin city centre. It's so pretty. Trinity College, Dublin Castle and Christchurch are all must see's. But the west coast of Ireland is amazing. We drove up the coast last year and I have never seen anything like it. The scenery is incredible.
  • From Mel (your #1 fan!): I know you don't have a lot of time on your hands lately, but when you have time do you have any favorite books, authors that you love to read?
  • Lisa: HI Mel #1 Fan!!! To be honest, I don't have a favourite author. And yes, it's very hard finding time to read a book but on the odd occasion that I don't have the kids on a promo tour I would always bring a good thriller with me. And I do like some easy read "chick lit" books. But to be honest, with the little time on my hands I'd be more inclined to read the newspapers!
  • From Mel: Lisa, did you and the other girls have any input on what songs would be chosen for The Greatest Journey DVD?
  • Lisa: No the cd song choices are not something i ever get involved with. I just do the singing!!!
  • From Mel: Ok... I promise this is the last Question from me... But there is a debate on the CWF on the song You Raise Me Up on the new TGJ CD. The added verse with Lynn singing, is that you or Chloe that sings with her. I say it's Chloe.
  • Lisa: Now you've got me - I'll have to go back and listen!!!! But I'm nearly positive that it's Chloe.
  • From MeganDelia: I’ve been singing since I was really little and dream about making it big in the music business. And listening to you and the rest of the girls sing has just fueled the dream even more. I was just wondering what advice you could give me. It sure would mean a lot.
  • Lisa: I honestly believe that there is a certain amount of luck and being in the right place at the right time involved. I'm a firm believer in the saying "what's meant for you won't pass you by". I've worked really hard to get where I am today but there are plenty of people out there who have worked just as hard and are very talented but haven't made it. It's a very tough business and you can't take knock backs personally. You've just got to keep at it and if it's meant to be, it will be.
  • From edtom/ED: Several years ago (in 2002 or 2003), I saw Riverdance twice at the Clemens Center in Elmira, NY. It was fantastic! Were you and/or David Downes with the cast of Riverdance at that time?
  • Lisa: I was definitely there but David wasn't.
  • From Ashlee: I absolutely love singing and I sing all the time, even in random public places, but anyway I was wondering how you get such power in your voice? Whenever I try to sing something with a sudden dramatic crescendo I always sound breathy and well, bad.... Thanks a bunch Lisa you're amazing!
  • Lisa: I always had quite a lot of power in my voice. A lot of it is about control and breathing. Once you get your breathing under control it helps you push that little bit more without there being any tuning issues. I also think your voice gets more powerful as you get older!!
  • From John/Starman: Based on my experience with my own daughter, I am betting all takers that Ellie walks sooner than either of your boys did! When the moment arrives, will you tell us if this is true?....not that I'll be terribly enriched if I win the bet!
  • Lisa: Both my boys walked at 12 months. Ellie is now 8 months and there isn't even a sign of her crawling!. However, she is trying to type with me as we speak!!!!! But yes, I'm sure she'll be seen walking around venues! But I think the boys will have her beat on the walking front! The talking front will be a different story though!
  • From Skybuffalo/Ron: With all of the international tours, do you sing any of the songs in different languages?
  • Lisa: No. It's hard enough for some of us to remember the lyrics in English and Irish, never mind any other languages!!
  • From Kelsey: Sort of like one already listed: Do you have any favorite books, authors, or subjects that fascinate you?
  • Lisa: As I said in one of the other answers, I love crime stories. I'm very morbid really!! I like thrillers and true crime. I also find cultural differences fascinating and I really enjoy learning and understanding other traditions.
  • From Kelsey: What do you think your best traits are?
  • Lisa: I'm pretty good humoured. It takes a lot to put me in bad form!
  • From Jeanine: Are there any songs on your solo CD that are especially meaningful to you? Which ones?
  • Lisa: They all mean something different to me. To be honest, I have to believe in them to record them otherwise you wouldn't believe in them!
